South Africa to host the 2013 World Economic Forum on Africa

11 April 2013

South Africa will this year host yet another important world event, the 23rd World Economic Forum on Africa, scheduled to be held on 08-10 May 2013 in Cape Town.

This Forum will reflect on a broad range of economic issues relating to the African continent, converging particularly around the issues of growth and development. The theme of the event is "Delivering on Africa's Promise”, which will form the basis for more deeper engagement of economic issues such as strengthening the continent's competitiveness, creating inclusive and sustainable growth , accelerating infrastructure development and economic diversification. The Forum will provide open platform for global and regional leaders and luminaries in various sectors such as business, banking, government, civil society, academia and others to engage deeply on the issues which are key to the renewal of the African continent. The three days deliberations will be anchored on the following three themes:

Accelerating economic diversification

Boosting Strategic Infrastructure

Unlocking Africa's talent

· The above themes consolidates the previous ones discussed during the 22nd World Economic Forum on Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, focused on leadership, innovation and shared opportunities as well as increasing investment in Frontier Markets. The crux of the Forum is making a positive response to the economic growth in the continent, and leveraging important sectors to further advance this growth. In turn, this lends yet another opportunity to advance the African Agenda of economic growth and development, as well as security.

The government of South Africa expresses its full support and commitment to the event, and encourages all relevant participating sectors to take part in making this event a resounding success.
